Reading Poetry as Spiritual Practice

I love this idea. Lectio Divina:

Living by Heart, the monthly group
that practices memorizing poetry as
a spiritual practice, with ElJean
Wilson, resumes Thursday
afternoon, October 1 from 1:30-
3:45. We will continue the first
Thursday of each month until
February, 2010.

Adventures in English Literature meets Artist Trading Cards

I’m finishing a set of Artist Trading Cards for the 4th Annual Richmond Art Gallery ATC exhibition.

Mine use bits of very familiar poetry from my Grade 12 textbook: Adventures in English Literature – with added cut out images, colour, etc.

It’s been quite an experience to revisit (and rip up!!!) this book – I found a copy in the Hornby Island free store. I hope whoever gave it there feels this is a good use of it.

I think…

I’m doing some research on Darwin and evolution to prepare for my art show at the Jericho Arts Centre in Vancouver next June. Here’s a link to his first sketch of how transmutation (now called evolution) works. The story is he did the sketch first and then firmly wrote “I think…” at the top. I imagine him starting these words rather tentatively and getting clearer by the time he added the dots at the end, but still aware there was much to consider and learn before being absolutely sure. Let alone explaining it to others…
